The All India Pottery Manufacturers’
Association (AIPMA) was established in the year 1948 under the Presidentship of
Late M. G. Bhagat.
AIPMA is the forum for the
purpose of promoting and exchanging knowledge in Ceramic/Pottery industry in
India and to encourage its Members to be a partner in the development of this
industry.
AIPMA
is registered under the Companies’ Act and the registration was granted in
1952 by the Govt. of West Bengal under section 26 of the Indian Companies’
Act, 1913.
The
concept of forming this Association was intiated by Late Sir Sri Ram, a renowned
and successful industrialist of yester year. He was helped by Late M. G. Bhagat,
a noted personality in the field of Ceramic/Pottery industry in India.
The
main aims and objectives of AIPMA are as follow:
- To encourage and establish fellow
feelings, better understanding, mutual co-operation, unanimity of purposes
among the Members from all sections of Ceramic and allied industries.
- To promote and protect the
interest and interdependency of Ceramic and allied industries.
- To respect the industries and
their interest in deputations, petitions and other such representation as
may be required, to the Govt. Departments, Railways, Communications and the
likes.
- To approach Public Sector
Undertakings for help and assistance, to the needs of the industry e.g.
Coal, Oil, LPG, Minerals, Metals, Chemicals etc.
- To carry out necessary publicity
campaign and to do such acts as may be necessary from time to time
conductive to the welfare, furtherance growth and protection of such
industries represented by AIPMA.
- To secure for the industries
concessions, benefits etc. from the Government and other public bodies and
to extend all help to its members.
- To represent to all official and
non-official bodies and persons corporate or otherwise e.g. Chamber
Commerce, Municipal Corporation and such other bodies as may be required to
extend all assistance to the Members of AIPMA.
- To protest legislation and other
measures and obtain changes of Law and practice affecting Trade, Commerce
and industries related to the Ceramic industry.
- To encourage, assist and extend
knowledge and information connected with the industry by sponsoring
seminars, discussions, endowments of scholarships in India.
- To promote and help commercial
and technical education and such study of different branches for the
progress and benefit of the industry.
- To encourage development of the
Ceramic industry and assist Members to interact with Research and
Development (R&D) organizations in India.
- To lay down standards and
specifications of all manufactured products of the industry and assist
members to follow the standards of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
- To encourage young entrepreneur
Members for the development of the industry and assist for Technical
education through professional of Govt. recognized Institutions in India.
The
Association publish a quarterly journal by the name ‘INDOCERAM’ (formerly
known as THE INDIAN POTTER) and it is distributed not only to the members of
AIPMA but to the various Central/State Govt. offices, Regional/National
Laboratories, various Ceramic Institutions, Eminent Scientists, Industrialists
etc.
The
Association had also published the following books;
- Status Report of Ceramic industry
in India.
- Study on New Generation Shuttle
Kilns for small scale sector.

The Association has two categories of membership viz. (i)
MEMBER and (ii) ASSOCIATE MEMBER. The membership is open to the manufacturers of
Tableware, Sanitaryware, L.T. and H.T. Insulator, Wall and Floor Tiles,
Pottery/Ceramic machines, colours, Transfers/Decals, consulting firms, sole
agents of foreign principals, Technical/Advanced ceramics, Mineswares of basic
pottery raw-materials etc.
