The Indian Ceramic Society
Current Activities
It was agreed that while organising the Chapter activities, talks and
meetings, needs of Industries also to be considered
Ceramic Industries ( as also other Industries) are affected by the
changes due to cheaper and liberal imports. The Chennai chapter chalked out programmes
essential to meet the challenges facing the industry:
1. Cost reduction - techniques
2. Reskilling - techniques
1. Cost reduction: New techniques which can be introduced in the
existing Industry were considered.- Technology like PPC- Predictive
Process Control. which will enable production with a consistent higher
yields from varying quality in the input Raw Materials - cutting costs. A note on this is enclosed by Mr. M. R. Srinivasan, of formerly Tata Ceramics who had undergone training in this technique in the U.S.A.
2. Energy Conservation - This is a direct cost reduction .
3. Reskilling : Training and development of cost effective and simple control techniques to test-in process or
end products. Reskilling is absolutely necessary for survival in all activities production,
technologies, so also in other areas like
marketing and management.
Ceramic Industry is well established, has invested vast resources in
Plant, Machinery, Technology, Production facilities, Skilled manpower. To day this is affected due to changed conditions.
It is necessary that these resources are profitably utilised. and the
Industry maintain a competitive edge by reducing costs and better
quality standards. Technological inputs can be used in the existing
facilities to achieve this and progressively develop.
